“ What Do You Do Exactly?” many of our clients have asked us this question after we told them that we do Website Optimization and Search Engine Positioning. It is hard to give a simple answer to this question because for one thing what we do is very technical and explaining what we do requires a good understanding of website design and development as well as understanding how Search Engines (SE's) work. For another, there are many different steps to our work and we use multiple techniques to ensure the placement of your website on the first page of the Search Engines (SE). However, we do want to answer your question, therefore, we have prepared this document, which tries to shed some light on the process that your website goes through when you sign up with our company.
Before you read this document, you need to be familiar with the following phrases:
Search Engines (SE's) – like Google, Yahoo, MSN, and AOL. These engines use very sophisticated software to read your website, index your site's content, and to position it on their search results. When Internet surfers search the Internet, they show these indexed websites based on relevancy and optimization.
Search Engine Positioning (SEP) – is what we do. It means the combination of all the techniques we will discuss here to place your site on the first page of the SE's when someone searches for your keywords.
Keywords (or Key Phrases ) – important phrases that your prospective client or patient may search for on the SE's to find your website. You may want to position your website for only one keyword or many different keywords.
Website Optimization – the techniques we use in changing the code of your site, so the SE's will see your site relevant to your keywords. Website Optimization has been used in the past interchangeably with Search Engine Positioning. But a site could be well optimized and yet doesn't get any position on the SE's.
Website Code – the code that the Internet reads in order to understand your website. Internet browsers won't see the code – it is in the background. Most of the work we do on your site is done on the code and is not visible to the eyes of surfers, only the Internet and SE's.
Meta Tags – parts of your website code that gives specific information to the SE's “Spider.”
Spiders – powerful programs (software) that read your website and give it a rank in comparison to other related websites. These software are responsible in positioning your site on the first page (or the 100th page) of each SE.
Once again, what we are going to talk about here is very technical, so if you don't understand parts of it, don't worry, you can ask us any questions you have.
Note: all of the techniques mentioned here are legitimate optimization techniques. Your website will not be banned from the SE's or penalized for the kind of work we do. To know more about illegitimate positioning techniques ask us and we'll explain to you a few of them.
This document is divided into the following seven main sections:
Website Qualification – or website analysis would help us understand if your site qualifies for our work.
Keywords Analysis - determining what keywords your prospective clients may search for in order to find your website.
Website Optimization
Search Engine Submission
Linking Campaign
Monthly Reviews and Updates
Other Services
Website Qualification
Before we sign you up as our client, we spend some time analyzing your website to find out if it has the basic requirements for our optimization work. As you may be aware, there are different types of websites including regular HTML, Flash, Framed, PHP, and others. Some of these, like the ones designed with Flash, do not qualify for optimization work. Other sites like Framed ones need additional work in order for it to be ready for SEP.
We will let you know if your website does not qualify or needs additional work in our proposal (before you sign up with us).
