Meta Tags Can Make Or Break Your Dental Website

Meta tags are codes (usually HTML) on the background of your dental website's pages that contain important information about your dentistry website. Besides Title tag of your dental website, the other Meta tags are not visible to your website's visitor, but are visible to the search engines when they read your sites.

Title Tag
Title tag refers to the code of your website that contains the name of your site. The content of this tag is viewable to the visitors to your site. You can locate it on top of the Internet Explorer window (on the left). Also, when you search for a site on the search engines, the title of the page is usually a portion of the title tag of your dental website.

The code uses the following format:

<title>Dental Website Marketing - Dentistry Internet - Sinai Marketing, Inc.</title>

The title tag is by far the most important piece of information on your website that must be utilized well. Search Engines value the content within the title tag highly and would easily penalize your site if you over-optimize this tag.

At Sinai Marketing, Inc., we write the content of this tag carefully to use its value to your advantage.

Description Tag
Although not as important as the title tags, description tags are nevertheless important. Description tags are not visible to your website's visitors, but some search engines use the information within this tag to write a short “description” of your website under its title.

The description tags could look different. But the common format is as follows:

<meta name="Description" content="Sinai Marketing provides search engine optimization and website marketing for dentists throughout the US and beyond."/>

Like title tags, description tags contain valuable information for most search engines. However, “spamming” the description tags could also penalize your website's position for your dentistry keywords.

Keywords Tag
This is the least important meta tag. Although, few years ago search engine optimizers used keywords tag and it helped many websites rank well for their keywords, but because so many abused the tag, search engines decided to ignore these tags altogether. However, one never knows when they decide to use these tags again, so we add these tags to our client's websites – they won't hurt your websites after all.

Keywords tags usually take the following form:

<meta name="Keywords" content="Dental web marketing, dental website marketing, dentistry Internet marketing, dental website design, dental web design"/>

Other Tags
There are other tags that search engine optimizers have used in the past such as “abstract” tags or “re-visit” tags. But these tags add no value to your website. Avoid them at all costs.
